Tuesday 5 16 17 morning call

I drove around to find clean rideable waves yesterday, but I couldn't. Ended up surfing Pavils with 25 knots of wind. Was kinda of fun, just hard on your eyes when paddling.

I'm trying to learn to asses the size of the waves in Lahaina from those outer buoys readings, but it's not as easy as when the local buoys are working. Today it doesn't really matter, because it's onshore. At least now, check the webcam later. I chose a good day for a liver flush.

Hookipa will be the place to go if you want to surf, the wind sensor is "only" reading 10 (6-16)mph from 82 at 6.15am. Gonna get stronger later.

Wind map at 2pm shows the usual strong easterlies.


Current wind map shows:
1) the leftover of the NW fetch that generated the swell that will arrive Thursday. Surfline forecast for that day now downgraded to only 2.2f 12s, but I believe it's gonna be bigger
2) windswell fetch
3) an intense and compact fetch in the Tasman sea. Good swell for Fiji, not so much for us. We need the fetch to be bigger in there
4) this fetch has been making waves for us for a few days and it's now aiming mostly at the Americas, but we'll still get some angular spreading. South swells generation about to improve greatly, when fetch n.3 will cross over New Zealand in a couple of days.
